Which should i get?
an ATI graphics card, or a geforce? well im thinking for guild wars probably ATI because of the fact that guild wars and ATI worked together... and also that there is no "latest ATI drivers crashing guild wars on exit" thread.... what would u all suggest? what kind of card should i go with?

Well the latest nVidia drivers that are causing GW to crash, are the beta drivers, not the official ones. It doesn't really matter though, nVidia and ATi each seem to have their equivalent video cards. I'd recommend the 6600GT though myself, it's only $150-$170 or so, and runs Guild Wars great for me. If you're on a tight budget, it's probably the best on the market.

im sorry i know that nvidia vs ati is a very heated debate but i would like to give you my opinion from experience....nvidia all the way....i had an ati card in a laptop a couple years ago...drivers gave me white trees moving around in eq....i bought an ati radeon 9800 pro because the geforce fx line blew...drivers gave me crashes in games occasionally...the card didn't have any real linux support and it died a little over a year after i got it(just out of warranty)....my next purchase is probably going to be a 6800gt...nvidia and ati make gud hardware...but nvidia makes gud software...ati has the worst programmers i have ever seen...their drivers always have issues and they don't give a crap about any OS other than winxp....

In recent reviews, it seems like the ATI Radeon X800 XL has a better performance in gaming than the Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT. The Radeon is cheaper than the 6800 GT but it still estimates to around =<300 dollars. If you want the best video card around the <200 dollar mark - think about the GeForce 6600 GT.
As for the debate between Nvidia or ATI, I believe it's based on personal feeling. Since both manufacturers builds their video cards differently, you may like how one sets up their video cards than the other manufacturer.

Well if Windows XP is the current OS, why not target software toward that OS?

All things being equal, I'd suggest going with the nVidia 6800gt (BFG brand is a nice one), especially since it supports DX 9.0c, while ATI's X800 only goes up to DX 9.0b. Today's games don't require DX 9.0c, but future titles might. Another issue is AIT's dynamic texture scaling, which can skew benchmark numbers.
